HOW TO BE A THANKFUL BAD CHRISTIANPosted: 30.06.20 in Articles category
I have been re-reading "How to be a bad Christian ..." by Dave Tomlinson. It is very insightful with so much to say about following Jesus today. Here's an extract from pages 56 and 57' that even mentions sparrows! "Jesus gives a delightful insight into divine wakefulness or mindfulness when he says that even a sparrow does not fall to the ground without God noticing. This is a powerful reminder of God's attentiveness to the details of our lives too: 'even the hairs of your head are all counted. So do not be afraid.' The Christian approach to mindfulness is encapsulated in the practice of gratitude. 'Give thanks to God the Father at all times and for everything,' St Paul says. Martin Luther King Jr described gratitude as the basic Christian attitude. In other words, whoever experiences thankfulness is practising the core value of Christianity. The thirteenth-century mystic and theologian Meister Eckhart said that if the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is 'thank you', it will be enough." |
